Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries

Throughout the academic year, Saint Michael College of Hindang Leyte Inc.(SMCHLI) assists students by administering scholarships, awards, bursaries and programs intended to assist students who have shown outstanding abilities in academic or vocational areas and/or are in need of financial assistance. 

Definition:

Scholarships are merit-based awards that recognize academic achievement. Students demonstrating community involvement or exceptional athletic ability in combination of high academic achievement can apply for this award.

Bursaries are primarily based on assessed financial need and satisfactory academic progress.

A. ADMISSION SCHOLARSHIP

Saint Michael College of Hindang Leyte Inc rewards academic excellence with an entrance scholarship for recent high school graduates to assist in financing their post-secondary studies. Students are automatically considered for the Entrance Academic Scholarship based on their admission application and submitted transcripts. All recipients of this award must obtain a Grade Point Average of at least 1.75 with no grade in any subject below 2.25 for the duration of their freshman year.

Duration: 1 Year

Eligibility
High school graduate must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a General Average (GA) of at least 88% in fourth-year high school with no grade in any subject below 86%;
  • Must not have taken any course in college prior to application

B. ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

Academic award granted to the top continuing full-time students. All awardees shall maintain the specified GPA as stated in the table below. Renewable for three (3) subsequent years provided specified maintaining GPA is achieved in a full course load each year

Duration: 1 Year

Eligibility
Students must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled full time defined as taking a minimum of 21 units in the qualifying semester;
  • Must not have any grade lower than 3.00 in any subject from the previous term including NSTP and PE (excluding summer courses);
  • Must maintain an average of at least 1.75 or higher every term;
  • Must finish the program within the prescribed number of terms; and
  • Must have no prior record of misconduct, misdemeanor and/or violation(s) of any of the provisions stipulated in the Student's Handbook

C. SAINT MICHAEL COLLEGE EMPLOYEE SCHOLARSHIP

Saint Michael College Employee Scholarship is awarded to spouse or dependent children of SMCHLI full-time employees subject to availability of funds. 

Duration:1 Semester

Eligibility
Students must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be the spouse* or dependent child** of a full-time employee;
  • Enrolled full time defined as taking a minimum of 21 units in the qualifying semester;
  • Achieved a GPA of 2.0 or higher for the semester applied for;
  • Must not have any grade lower than 3.00 in any subject form the previous term including NSTP and PE (excluding summer courses; and
  • Must have no prior record of misconduct, misdemeanor and/or violation(s) of any of the provisions stipulated in the Student's Handbook

*Spouse is defined as a legal spouse who has been bound by Christ through the sacrament of Marriage and has been residing with the SCMHLI employee in a conjugal relationship for a period of not less than one year before the beginning of the eligibility period.

** Dependent child is defined as an unmarried child who is dependent on the SMCHLI employee for support and maintenance. Marriage, in the case of the dependent child, is defined in the same manner as it is defined for a spouse of an employee (refer to note above).

Benefits
Computation of awarded benefits for qualified applicants are dependent on the set budget for the employee scholarship benefit. Scholarship is awarded as a fixed amount instead of percentage based from total tuition.

D. SAINT MICHAEL COLLEGE OF HINDANG LEYTE GENERAL BURSARY

Every year, Saint Michael College of Hindang Leyte offers bursaries to both new and continuing full time and part time students who have demonstrated financial need and a good academic standing. All bursary applications require students to complete a budget section.

Bursary application will commence on June until early-to-mid September. Awarding of bursaries will go out in early November of each year.

Bursary funds will be applied to second semester fees. If both first and second semester fees are paid in full, refunds may be requested by contacting Registrar's Office following the second semester course load revision deadline.

Eligibility
Students must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be registered as an undergraduate student enrolled in no more than eighteen (18) units per semester;
  • Must maintain an average of at least 2.00 or higher every term;
  • Must not have any grade lower than 3.00 in any subject form the previous term including NSTP and PE (excluding summer courses;
  • Must have no prior record of misconduct, misdemeanor and/or violation(s) of any of the provisions stipulated in the Student's Handbook; and
  • Financial need must be clearly documented on the application by submitting ITR and/or Barangay / DSWD Certification Indigency
  • Excludes 4P's beneficiaries, CHED and government scholars

E. SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

  1. Athletic Scholarship

    Athletic Scholarship is awarded to student-athletes who have demonstrated high academic achievement and have exhibited exceptional athletic ability, team leadership, strong work ethic, passion and dedication as members of the College's official varsity team.

    Students must meet the following criteria:

    • Enrolled full time defined as taking a minimum of 18 units in the qualifying semester;
    • Maintain a practice and training program acceptable to their respective coach;
    • Must not have any grade lower than 3.00 in any subject from the previous term including NSTP and PE (excluding summer courses);
    • Must maintain an average of at least 2.25 or higher every term; and
    • Must have no prior record of misconduct, misdemeanor and/or violation(s) of any of the provisions stipulated in the Student's Handbook

  2. Cultural Arts Tuition Discount

    Cultural Arts Tuition Discount is awarded to students who are active members of SMCHLI Chorale, SMCHLI Dance Troupe, Theater Arts Guild and SMCHLI Band.

    Eligibility
    Students must meet the following criteria:

    • Enrolled full time defined as taking a minimum of 21 units in the qualifying semester;
    • Must not have any grade lower than 3.00 in any subject from the previous term including NSTP and PE (excluding summer courses);
    • Must maintain an average of at least 2.25 or higher every term; and
    • Must have no prior record of misconduct, misdemeanor and/or violation(s) of any of the provisions stipulated in the Student's Handbook

  3. Student Council Grant

    Student Council Grant is awarded to students who are officers of the Student Supreme Council.

    Eligibility
    Students must meet the following criteria:

    • Enrolled full time defined as taking a minimum of 21 units in the qualifying semester;
    • Maintain a practice and training program acceptable to their respective coach;
    • Must not have any grade lower than 3.00 in any subject from the previous term including NSTP and PE (excluding summer courses);
    • Must maintain an average of at least 2.25 or higher every term; and
    • Must have no prior record of misconduct, misdemeanor and/or violation(s) of any of the provisions stipulated in the Student's Handbook

  4. Student Editor Grant

    Student Editor Tuition Discount is awarded to students who are editors of the SMCHLI student publication.

    Eligibility
    Students must meet the following criteria:

    • Enrolled full time defined as taking a minimum of 21 units in the qualifying semester;
    • Maintain a practice and training program acceptable to their respective coach;
    • Must not have any grade lower than 3.00 in any subject from the previous term including NSTP and PE (excluding summer courses);
    • Must maintain an average of at least 2.25 or higher every term; and
    • Must have no prior record of misconduct, misdemeanor and/or violation(s) of any of the provisions stipulated in the Student's Handbook

  5. Family Tuition Discount

    Family Tuition Discount may be availed by families with three or more children enrolled in the SMCHLI undergraduate program. Children are ranked according to the total amount of tuition fee for the whole school year with the least amount ranked on top.
